Meat Sauce

Ingredients  

  • 1 lb Ground Beef

  • 2 tbs Olive Oil

  • 1 Yellow Onion, Quarted

  • 2 Medium Carrots, Chopped into large pieces 

  • 2 Celery Stalks, Chopped into large pieces

  • 3 Garlic Cloves, Minced

  • 1 tbs, Tomato Paste

  • 1 tbs, Dried Italian Herb Mix

  • 1 24oz can crushed tomato

  • Salt

  • Pepper

Instructions

  1. In a heavy bottom medium pot or Dutch Oven brown the ground beef in 2 tbs of olive oil on medium high heat, about 5-7 min. Once the beef is brown then remove from the pot and leaving the oil and meat drippings.  

  2. While you are browning the beef, add the onion, carrots and celery to a food processor. Process the vegetables until the vegetable are in small pieces like a salsa. Transfer the vegetables to the dutch oven and cook until the onions are translucent, about 5-7 min. 

  3. Add the chopped garlic and stir until fragrant 30 sec, then add the tomato paste and cook for 2 mins. Return the ground beef to the dutch oven and add in the dried Italian herb mix. Season with salt and pepper and cook for 2 min.

  4. Add the can of crushed tomatoes and bring to a boil. Once the sauce comes to a boil, cover with a lid and bring to a simmer for 20 min., stirring occasionally. Serve with your favorite pasta or layer in lasagna.
